On Jan. 11, Gro Intelligence released its report on supply and demand estimates for agricultural crops worldwide to fill the data void left by the delay of the USDA’s closely watched WASDE report. In light of the enthusiastic feedback we got from users across the industry, Gro will be releasing another round of supply and demand forecasts next week on the company’s data platform at noon EST on Thursday, Feb. 7 (24 hours prior to the USDA’s WASDE release). Gro will also be releasing its forecasting methodology to allow market participants to better prepare for the WASDE release, which will incorporate both December and January data. To gain free access to our February estimates, as well as to all of Gro’s data including predictive-model outputs, visit www.gro-intelligence.com/USGovShutdown.

Gro has one of the world’s most comprehensive agricultural data platforms, making it uniquely positioned to reproduce the large number of robust forecasts contained in the USDA’s monthly World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report, or WASDE. Although government funding was restored over the weekend, and the USDA announced WASDE will be published on Feb. 8, Gro plans to continue to publish its own estimates to promote increased transparency in the forecasting process.

Gro will forecast production for major world crops, including corn, soy, and wheat, for the 2018/19 marketing year. It will also estimate production for other crops, such as cotton, rice, and sugar, and demand for corn, wheat, and soybeans. In all, Gro will release forecast models covering 35 crops grown around the world.

Gro will publish the details behind our forecasts next week so that anyone can recreate our results using the data in our platform. We will also hold a webinar to walk anyone who is interested through our models and research approach (stay tuned for more details!). Gro is one of the only companies in the world with such a comprehensive data platform, encompassing more than 40 million unique agriculture-related data series and nearly 500 trillion data points. We believe we are the only company that is entirely open about its methodology.

NOTICE: Due to ongoing uncertainty around US government funding, Gro Intelligence will continue to offer free subscriptions to the Gro data platform, providing market participants with much of the data that was unavailable from government websites and databases. Interested users can go to www.gro-intelligence.com/USGovShutdown to access and download all of the data they need until long-term funding is restored.

About Gro Intelligence

Gro Intelligence is a data and analytics company that maintains one of the world’s largest agriculture-related data platforms. The platform contains approximately 40 million raw data sets across multiple types of data and crop types on a global basis, including supply (e.g., acreage, production, yield, stocks, etc.), demand (e.g., consumption), pricing, trade flows/matrices, and land cover/location. It also includes a broad range of global environmental/climatological data from a variety of geospatial sources (e.g., land surface temperature, evapotranspiration, etc.). Gro uses this data to solve complex, mission-critical problems on behalf of corporate agribusinesses and other industry participants.
