In more bearish news for global corn farmers, Argentina looks to be sowing a record crop for harvest in spring of 2018. Planting began recently, and growers have expressed intentions to increase their corn area by 5-10% to near 5.3 million hectares. Coupled with ample moisture seen in satellite evapotranspiration data, this sharply boosted area should result in an Argentine crop of 46 million tonnes, up from 40 million tonnes last year. President Macri encouraged agricultural activity by eliminating export taxes before the spring 2016 harvest. We recommend that corn buyers and sellers use Gro analytics to keep a close eye on weather conditions and yield potential as the season develops.
