Year-to-date (June) US pork exports to China-Hong Kong are down from 2016. However, variety pork meats are bucking the trend—year-to-date exports are up 19% y/y. China’s hog herd is on the decline, but the country’s consumers still love delicacies made from pig snouts, ears, liver, and feet. With fewer hogs around, China is tapping into a growing number of pigs in the US. What’s more, weekly US pork exports to China are starting to tick up after a steep fall. China’s demand for pork should also pick up seasonally in the coming months.
