The Chilean salmon industry collapsed following an infectious salmon anaemia virus outbreak in 2007. Recently, increased regulatory oversight has helped the industry spawn anew. Chile is regaining its title of top salmon supplier to the United States, although the recovery has been been turbulent. In turn, tighter global supply of salmon has boosted export prices. As a result, Chilean farms are planning to significantly expand production in 2017, which may dampen future global prices.
